2017 Portfolio, Limited Edition

Vintage Note

2017 was a very challenging vintage for growers and winemakers. Abundant rainfall during the winter—the most in 20 years—ended a five-year drought. Spring was mostly mild with some cold nights, including a few days of frost. This delayed budbreak and bloom by about two weeks. During the summer we had some heat waves followed by cool temperatures and fog. September was quite hot, with many days reaching 100°F. Despite Mother Nature’s variability, we got optimal conditions for fruit development and maturity. Harvest started earlier than expected.

Tasting Note

The Portfolio 2017 offers a beautiful aromatic expression of rich dark fruit interlaced with spicy toast. On the palate, the wine is full and juicy, filled with flavors of blackberry, dark plum and a touch of bittersweet chocolate. The wine evolves with seductive elegance and finesse. The fine-grained tannins give the mouthfeel freshness and fantastic depth. An age-worthy wine, it will delight now and for many years to come.
